Obituary For Joseph A. Yanke

Joseph A. Yanke June 7, 1930-Nov. 3, 2022

Joseph A. Yanke, 92, Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late August and Anna (Fensloch) Yanke. Joseph is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was the last surviving member of his family. Joseph was preceded in death by four brothers: John Albert, Reinhart, Edward and Jacob Yanke and his four sisters: Amelia Yanke, Martha Yanke, Clara Esworthy and Wanda Daugherty. Joseph was a graduate of Altoona High School and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from Conrail as an electrician with 41 years of service. Joseph was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing piano and the organ. Joseph was very generous with his family and different charities. Friends will be received from 5-7 pm on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 at the Stevens Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ralph Hamer. Interment will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Joseph’s memory to the: Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, 916 Hickory St., Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.     I think of Joe quite a bit ! I worked along side Joe for 18 years rewinding electrical motors ! Joe was very kind ! He taught me a lot ! I'll never forget him !

    I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Yanke during a few real estate transactions. I remember him being very respectful, kind plus being very generous to his Family. I wish I had more clients like him...he was a gem.
