Joseph C. Toomey

June 3, 1944 – November 19, 2023

Joseph C. Toomey, 79, Altoona, passed away peacefully Sunday at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his family.

Joe was born in Altoona, son of the late John J. and Marie (Inlow) Toomey. On November 4, 1972, he married his best friend and love of his life, Linda J. Glunt.

Surviving are his wife; two sons: Kevin J. Toomey of Ashville, NC and Kasey R. Toomey (Adrianne) of Los Angeles, CA; four daughters: Kerry L. Toomey (Bob Kocher) of Camp Hill, Kimberly A. Toomey (Alex Mendez) of Chicago, IL, Kelly L. Root of Pittsburgh, and Kristen N. Baer (Zachary) of Altoona; ten grandchildren: Camryn, Ruby, Caleb, Shane, Owen, Elias, Alice, Ethan, Netta, and Etel.

He is also survived by his twin brother, John E. Toomey (Elaine) of Altoona and was preceded in death by two sisters: Sarah Jane Lear and Sr. Marie John Toomey.

Joe was a 1962 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and served in the US Army Reserve.

He retired as a mail clerk with the US Postal Service after 33 years of service.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.

Joe was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler, Pittsburgh Pirate and Pittsburgh Penguin fan. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, growing tomatoes, following Bishop Guilfoyle sports and spending time with his grand dogs, Kody and Sadie. Most especially, he was a dedicated, loyal, family man who enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, November 24, 2023 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church by Fr. Nelson Javier, Celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that contributions be made to Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, 2400 Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16601 in Joe’s memory.
