Joseph A. “Joe” DeLeo

January 2, 1937-November 16, 2025

Joseph A. “Joe” DeLeo, 88, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Joseph A. and Josephine (Sylvester) DeLeo.

Joe married Marguerite “Peggy” Hoff on October 14, 1989.

Surviving are his wife; four children: Dianne Rudel (Neil) of Duncansville, Thomas DeLeo (Colleen) of Altoona, Nadine DeLeo (Michael) of Pittsburgh and Michelle Tschirhart (David) of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren: Nikole (Greg), Gino (Jessica), Adam (Rebecca), Tyler (Tania), Katie (Paul), Sydney (Ben), Madyson (Eric), Finley and Cole and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is his former wife, M. Susan Jackson, of Altoona.

Joe was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy DeLeo, Jr.

He was a 1954 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.

Joe was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He owned Downtowne Drug in Altoona in the 1970s and maintained his pharmacy license and continued working until recently.

He was the former president of DeLeo Games, a multi-generational family business started by his father, and he was also co-owner of Kitchen & Gift in Altoona.

Joe was a founding member of the Blairmont Club, a past board member of Park Hills Country Club and the first president of the Blair County Pickleball Club.

He was the oldest surviving Cohen Blanket Award winner of Altoona Catholic High School/Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm, Friday, November 21, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 22, 2025 in the Stevens Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Joe’s memory to: American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave. Ste. D101, Altoona, PA 16601/www2.heart.org.

    I remembering working for Joe doing a job at his house. Putting big timbers it was a hard labor job me and his grandson Tyler and I did together. I remember him coming out always making sure we were ok and feed and hydrated. He said to me one day while we were wrapping the big job up. Just always remember to take care of yourself and always remember your value in this thing we call life.
