Joseph Matthew ‘Joe’ Reilly
August 11, 1937-January 17, 2025
Joseph Matthew ‘Joe’ Reilly, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and uncle passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025 at his home in Altoona, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Altoona on August 11, 1937, the son of the late John C. Reilly and Carolyn (Hite) Reilly. He was married to Carole Ann Frasca on May 12,1962 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Altoona, PA.
He is survived by his loving wife Carole of 62 years, daughter Lisa Reilly (Pat) of Silver Spring, MD, son Joseph P. Reilly (Sabrina) of Arlington, VA, daughter Jenny Reilly (Wayne) of Baltimore, MD, daughter Mia Reilly White (Beirne) of Baltimore, MD, and his five grandchildren, Hannah Reilly and Jake Reilly of Arlington VA, Reilly White and Annabel White of Baltimore, MD, and Zoey Reilly of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by his sister Jeanne Plummer (Paul) of Hollidaysburg, PA, brother J. Thomas Reilly (Barbara) of Somerset, PA. and brothers-in-law Michael Frasca of Hampton, VA and Richard Frasca of Altoona, PA, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James (Margaret) of Pittsburgh, a sister Mary Louise Sharbaugh (Ronald) of Vienna, VA, a sister Colleen Schrieber (Donald) of Cherry Hill, NJ and an infant son, Matthew.
Joe was a 1955 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and a 1959 graduate of Saint Francis College, Loretto, PA.
He began his professional career in Accounting with General Motors of Baltimore and later became an Internal Revenue Service agent in the Johnstown and Altoona offices. In 1970, he began the private practice of accounting and taxation in a local firm as a Certified Public Accountant partner. He later formed Reilly, Creppage & Co., Inc. and worked there until he retired on December 31, 2015.
Joe was a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. He served as Vice Chairman of the Altoona Water and Sewer Authority and was instrumental in the acquisition of the Blair Gap Water Co. He had a long tenure as a Trustee of the Altoona Hospital Board of Directors and was an integral member of Altoona Regional Health System, serving for many years as Treasurer.
Joe was honored in 2015 by UPMC Altoona for 42 years of service for his dedication and financial expertise. He was on nearly every board and committee in the health system and was involved in the planning of the 14-story patient care building and the creation of the Trauma Center at the hospital.
Joe was a member of the Park Hills Golf Club, Blairmont Club, and a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Altoona. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and volunteered on several committees over the years.
He also served for many years on the Saint Francis University President’s Cabinet.
Joe enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fan of St. Francis basketball, Penn State Football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of a loving commitment to family, friends, and community. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received from 4-7 pm, Friday, February 14, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 am, Saturday, February 15, 2025 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5519 6th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602 with Fr. John Lynam, celebrant.
Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
