Obituary For Joseph "Joe" Thomas Metzgar

Joseph “Joe” Thomas Metzgar

December 28, 1943-May 4, 2026

Joseph “Joe” Thomas Metzgar, 82, of Altoona, passed away Monday morning at his residence. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Joseph Thomas, Sr. and Willette (Eckenrode) Metzgar.

Joe married Camille C. Kulikowski on June 23, 1973 and she preceded him in death on November 12, 2024.

He is survived by his two sons and their families: Brian and Kasie Metzgar and their children, Daisy, Aurora, Kal and Kara; Jason and Jennifer Metzgar and their children: Emma, Brayden, Kaitlyn, Paityln and Benson. Joe is also survived by his sister, Kay Kruk of Phoenixville and his standard poodle, Majik and labradoodle, Mabel.

Joe was a graduate of York College, where he met and fell in love with Camille. He went on to serve with the United States Air Force.

Joe was a Field Auditor for the Department of Public Welfare with over 40 years of service. He was also a Logan Township Supervisor with over two decades of dedication.

He was as member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.

Joe enjoyed gardening and caring for Majik and Mabel. He ultimately loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and attending their extracurricular activities.

Friends will be received from 9:30-11 am, Friday, May 8, 2026 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus, 411 Wopsononock Ave., Altoona, PA 16601, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am with Fr. Brian Norris. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery with Military honors.

The arrangements for Joe’s service have been thoughtfully provided by The Stevens Mortuary.
