Josephine “Babe” A. Varlotta
February 17, 1931-August 21, 2024
Josephine “Babe” A. Varlotta, 93, peacefully passed away Wednesday, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Uniontown, the daughter of the late John and Constanza (Sabatine) Pozzuto.
Babe married Michael L. Varlotta on July 6, 1963, he preceded her in death on October 2, 2017.
Surviving are her loving son and wife, Michael L. Varlotta, II and Patricia of Collegeville; three grandchildren: Ariane Klepacki and husband, Robert, Michael L. Varlotta, III and Haley Varlotta; three great-grandchildren: Wesley, Emery and Addison Klepacki; two sisters: Dorothy Volchek of Akron, OH, Joan Baer of Uniontown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Florence Bendo and Dena Giust.
Babe was a teacher’s aid at Hollidaysburg Catholic School.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, where she was part of the Rosary Society. Babe had also been a member at St. Mary Catholic Church-Hollidaysburg.
Babe belonged to the Blair YMCA Ladies Auxiliary, Hollidaysburg Women’s Club, Altoona Bridge Club, and had been part of the Navy League along with her husband.
She enjoyed playing all types of card games and also played Bunko. Babe loved spending time with her family and friends, especially cooking and baking for everyone. Nobody could ever say they went away hungry when Babe was around.
Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th St., Altoona, PA 16602. Committal with be held at Calvary Cemetery.
