Katherine A. Scipioni

September 23, 1971-May 13, 2026

Katherine A. Scipioni, 54, of Altoona, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday evening at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of Marian (Blodgett) Merrbach and the late Wilbert Joseph Merrbach.

Kathy married Giulio Scipioni on July 8, 1995.

She is survived by her mother; her loving husband and two daughters: Marina and Daniela Scipioni; and her brother, Joseph Merrbach.

Kathy was preceded in death by her in-laws, Gino and Gioconda Scipioni.

She was a 1989 graduate of Altoona Area High School and Penn State University where she played basketball and received her Bachelor of Science in accounting.

Kathy was the office manager at Benzel’s Bretzels Bakery, Inc. having worked there for 35 years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Kathy was a loving and devoted wife and mother, she loved spending time with her family, especially attending her daughter’s activities.

Friends will be received from 2-5 pm, Sunday, May 17, 2026 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Monday, May 18, 2026 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th St., Altoona, PA 16602.

Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
