Obituary For Kenneth G. Partner

Kenneth G. Partner July 23, 1946-Sept. 26, 2022

Kenneth G. Partner, 76, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022.

He was born July 23, 1946 to Marjorie G. (Campbell) and Robert P. Partner, in Altoona, and married the former Marjorie E. Miller on May 10, 1969.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years; two sons, Kenneth Mark (Mila) of Mannheim, Germany, and Joshua Adam (Jennifer) of West Chester, PA; four grandchildren Lillian, Preston, Nolan, and Liam; eleven sisters-in-law, ten brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by one brother, Robert P. Partner, Jr. in Oct. 1995.

He, along with his wife, owned and operated J. K. Sports Inc., for more than 25 years.

He also worked at Ashley Home Store, Galactic Ice, and had been a reporter and copy reader in the Altoona Mirror newsroom from 1969 to 1983.

Ken was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

He served a couple of terms as director of the Altoona Parochial League and coached football at Our Lady of Lourdes for 7 years, at various levels at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School for 20 years. He was instrumental in the formation of the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauder Ice Hockey Club, in which he was involved from 2001 to 2020. During his tenure as APL director, he helped establish the girls’ basketball and volleyball programs. He ran the basketball programs at the Altoona YMCA for several years.

Ken was a founding member of the Laurel Mountain Hockey League and served as its Treasurer for five years. He was also a key figure in the organization of the Sunday Doubleheader Softball League and the establishment of the 7th grade football league of teams representing BG, Hollidaysburg, Keith and Roosevelt.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant shortly after being honorably discharged. While stationed with the Wahiawa/Kunia Detachment of Marine Barracks, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, from 1965 to 1967 he coached the detachment softball, football, basketball and volleyball teams to a combined record of 104-9-1.

His public service included serving on the Altoona Redevelopment Authority board of directors from 1987-1991 and on the Altoona Recreation Commission from 1982-1986.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm on Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Stevens Mortuary, 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral service will be held in the Stevens Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 10 a.m.
