Larry D. Stitt

April 20, 1952-January 27, 2026

Larry D. Stitt, 73, of Altoona, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family Tuesday evening following an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Merle D. and Janet (Donley) Stitt. Larry married Kathy M. Moore in 1972 at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont.

Surviving Larry is his loving wife, Kathy, of nearly 54 years; a son, Bryan D. Stitt (Andrea) of Quinton, VA; two daughters: Lisa M. Stitt and Erin M. Stitt both of Altoona; six grandchildren: Brandon, Zach, Cooper, Ella, Tenley and Rilynne Stitt; his brother, Gary Stitt (Peggy) and sister, Joyce Henninger all of Altoona.

Larry was a 1970 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Army Veteran with 12 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He retired from Conrail after 28 years of service. Larry had an extensive career with the PIAA as a long-time Official for football, basketball, softball, baseball and volleyball for 40 years.

Larry was a member of Park Hills Country Club.

He was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, his Wednesday evening trips to Al’s Tavern; but he ultimately loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren’s sporting events.

Friends will be received from 3-7 pm, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, February 4, 2026 in the Stevens Memorial Chapel with Barry Fox.
