Obituary For Louis A. Conte

Louis A. Conte

November 10, 1940-October 15, 2025

Louis A. Conte, 84, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John B. and Susan (Nardelli) Conte.

He is survived by his siblings: John D. Conte (Mary), Robert Conte, Carol Schmittle all of Altoona, Fran Balestino of Hollidaysburg and Susan Monroe (Jim) of North Huntingdon; and his sister-in-law, Sharon Conte; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by stepmother, Olga Conte; two brothers, Anthony Conte (Joan) and Richard Conte; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Balestino and Jack Schmittle.

He was a graduate of Altoona High School and retired after 44 years of service from the Altoona Area School District.

Louis was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

He was an avid sports fan, especially, Penn State, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Friends will be received from 3-6 pm, Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th Street, Altoona, PA 16602.

Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

The family asks that contributions be made in Louisโ€™s memory to: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, 806 11th Street, Altoona, PA 16602.
