Louise M. Gioiosa

February 28, 1933-June 17, 2025

Louise M. Gioiosa, 92, of Altoona, passed away Tuesday morning. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Ludwig and Magdalina (Heiss) Maierhofer.

Louise married Victor A. “Tony” Gioiosa on September 27, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. Tony preceded her in death on January 9, 2020.

She is survived by her loving children: Victor A. Gioiosa, Jr. (Sherry) and Tina Johnston (Ron) both of Altoona; three grandchildren: Neil Gioiosa (Niki), Abby Crider (Ryan) and Ross Gioiosa (Pam); nine great-grandchildren: Gracie, Jack, Luke, Finley, Emerson, Sylvie, Willa, Lily and Penelope. Louise is also survived by a brother, Lou Maierhofer of Hollidaysburg, two sisters-in-law: Ann Hale of Altoona and Maria Menta of State College and several nieces and nephews.

Louise was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Maierhofer and a sister, Teresa Lang.

She was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School and worked at Evey Footwear with over 22 years of service as their office manager. She retired from the Blair County Assistance Office in 1999.

Louise was a lifelong proud and active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she helped many people throughout her lifetime. She was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts for many years.

She loved to read and cook. Louise especially enjoyed time with her family, shopping and attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

Louise truly found a second home with the wonderful and compassionate caregivers at Graystone Manor with the assistance from Gentiva Hospice.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, June 23, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1405 5th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602, with Fr. Lubomir Strecok and Fr. Michael Pleva, celebrants. Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona.

Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1405 5th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602 in her name.
