Obituary For Mahersal B. Thomas

Mahersal B. “Bonnie” Thomas Aug. 6, 1926 – Sept. 8, 2020 Mahersal B. “Bonnie” Thomas, 94, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at his residence. Bonnie was born in Altoona, son of the late Mahersal M. “Mac” and Nellie L. (Slaughter) Thomas. On June 15, 1946, he married Roxie Harris who survives. Surviving are his wife; a son, Dwayne Thomas (Sharron) of Orangvale, CA; two grandchildren: Dwayne M. Thomas (Andrea) and Scott Thomas (Casie); four great-grandchildren: Alanna, Kris, Jordan and Jade; a brother: Aubrey Thomas (Dianna) of Elk Grove, CA; three sisters: Rebecca Hatfield (George) and Marian Tyler all of Altoona, and Maxine Kimbrough of Jacksonville, NC; cousins: Walter “Jerry” Fleming (Sally) and Monty Pattillo (Peggy) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings: Wynonna Thomas, Dr. Gerald Thomas, Raymond Thomas, Joseph Thomas, Hazel Thomas, Jacqueline Fleming, Diane Washington and Roxie Thomas. Bonnie was a US Army Veteran of WWII and retired from Penelec after 35 years of service. He was recognized as a 70-year member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he also served as Treasurer. Bonnie loved fishing, hunting, and target shooting. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Mt. Zion Missionary Ministry, P.O. Box 12, Altoona, PA 16603.
