Obituary For Maria "Mary Ann" A. Weinzierl

Maria “Mary Ann” Weinzierl May 2, 1935-March 13, 2021

Maria “Mary Ann” Weinzierl, of Altoona passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021 after a brief illness. Maria was born in Oberndorf Bavaria to Karolina and Max Sonnleitner. She came to America at 20 years old and met her beloved husband, Alfons Weinzierl, who preceded her in death this past November. They were married at St. Mary’s, Altoona on May 28, 1960 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Surviving are her two daughters, Linda Harrison of Jamison, PA and Mary Ann (Scott) Perriello of Collegeville, PA; 5 grandchildren Kelly (Jason) Charney, Carolyne, Jim, and Ryan and Abigail Maria Perriello; a great grandchild, Jack Charney; a brother Max Sonnleitner and her dear cousin Mary Jane Huber who was like a sister to her. She was preceded in death by her loved sister, Lina Schartner. Maria worked as a seamstress for many years and later stayed at home to raise her family. She was always helping and visiting her older friends, bringing food and company to anyone who needed it. Maria was a woman of strong faith and forgiveness. Through her life Maria loved crocheting and knitting, playing cards, Sudoku, gardening fresh fruits and vegetables, and couponing to find the best deal at the market. She was a fantastic cook and baker of German food and new recipes; no one ever left her home with an empty belly. She loved spending time and watching her children and grandchildren grow and succeed. Maria was a great wife, mom, grandma, sister, cousin, neighbor, and friend and there are no words to express how much she was loved or how much she will be missed. Until we are together again. Friends will be received from 11-12 noon on Friday, March 19, 2021 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral Mass will be celebrated with Fr. Lubomir Strecok, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1405 5th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
