Obituary For Marian Melania Conrad

Marian Melania Conrad

April 21, 1943-July 22, 2023

Marian Melania Conrad, a lifelong resident of Altoona, died at Graystone Manor from natural causes on July 22, 2023.

Born to Herman and Melania (Lang) Dambeck, Marian was a 1961 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. On September 14, 1963, she married Allan D. Conrad, who sadly preceded her in death in May of 2018.

She worked briefly at Puritan/Warnaco Credit Union, but her true vocation was loving her family fiercely. She was the rock of the family and will be greatly missed by her three heartbroken daughters, Carla Cheslock and husband Ed; Pam Skelley and husband Dave; and Paula Dull and husband Don.

Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her ten grandchildren: Jordan (Maren), Kyle, and Jenna (Erik) Cheslock; Zachary, Tyler, Maura, and Emma Skelley; and Jacob, Grace, and Becca Dull.

Marian is also survived by a brother Jimmy Dambeck and his wife Debbie, and a sister Margie Burchfield and her husband Jim.

Marian was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona. She was a woman of strong faith who lived her life to the fullest, centered on family.

Marian enjoyed hosting large family meals where everyone’s favorite dinner and dessert was sure to be served. She enjoyed family vacations that ranged from riding Disney roller coasters to catching ocean waves. Marian loved taking long walks on the beach, gathering seashells, and watching the sunrise over the ocean.

Although Marian did not drive, she never missed a shopping trip, especially if ice cream was “on the way”. Marian read avidly, spent countless hours gardening, and crocheted beautiful blankets that wrapped her grandchildren, and future generations, in love.

In addition, “Gram” enjoyed taking prom pictures and watching dance recitals. She proudly attended high school graduations, participated in family game nights, and supported her grandchildren at their sporting events for as long as her health allowed.

For all of these reasons, along with countless others, Marian’s memory will remain alive in the hearts of all those who were blessed to know and love her.

Visitation is welcomed at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602 from 4-7 PM on Friday, July 28, 2023, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 1405 5th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602 at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 29, 2023 with Fr. Lubomir Strecok, celebrant. A private burial and interment will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made in Marian’s name to the Altoona Area Public Library, 1600 5th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. In addition, if you are still lucky enough to have your mother in your life, call her today and tell her you love her.
