Obituary For Marie C. Petro

Marie C. Petro
December 12, 1939-September 22, 2026

Marie C. Petro, 86, of Altoona, passed away Tuesday evening at her residence. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Clair and Alma (Willnecker) Hoff.
Marie married Thomas Petro on April 22, 1961, he preceded her in death on September 25, 2023.
Surviving, is her son, Thomas M. Petro of Indiana and her daughter, Lynn M. Adams (Gene) of Altoona; five grandchildren: Halee Hutchinson (Laurence), Rylee and Macy Adams, T.J. and Nathan Petro; also, a great-grandson, Alfee Hutchinson. Also surviving are two sisters: Dorothy Kruise and Cindy Finelli both of Altoona and her sister-in-law, Erma DeBernardis.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Joseph and Donald Hoff and sister-in-law, Cheryl Hoff.
Marie was a 1958 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and retired as the Administrative Assistant from Bishop Guilfoyle High School.
She was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Marie enjoyed bowling, playing Bunco, and volunteering at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center. Most especially, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2-6 pm on Friday, September 25, 2026 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5519 6th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 with Fr. John Lynam, celebrant.
Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
The family kindly requests that contributions be made in Marie’s memory to: James E. Van Zandt Medical Center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd. Altoona, Pa. 16602

    Dr. Joseph Macharola

    I am deeply saddened to learn of Mrs. Petro's passing. She was one of my best secretaries and one of the warmest souls you could ever meet in life. Marie had a great personality and great sense of humor. She took very good care of me as teacher 1985 -1988 and as principal at BGHS 1995-1997. Her husband Tom was just magnificent as well. I have the fondest memories and my prayers are with the entire family.
