Mark M. Poirrier

May 7, 1962-June 13, 2025

Mark M. Poirrier, 63, of Altoona, passed away Friday. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late James E. Poirrier and Cheryl (Myres) Smith.

He had many struggles in his life that he overcame, but he never lost his sense of humor. Mark became paralyzed in 2005 from Hurricane Katrina and still kept a positive outlook. He relocated from Louisiana to Pennsylvania and continued to push forward.

Mark never married or had children of his own, however, he treated his nieces and nephew like they were his own.

He loved the color purple, unicorns, the band-Kiss and a beer (or 6), loved to cook for people and just enjoyed making people smile.

Mark had many stays at different hospitals over the past 20 years with the last one ultimately being more than his body could handle. His death leaves a hole in so many people’s hearts that will never close.

He was preceded in death by his niece, Michelle Crooks.

Left to cherish his memory and forever miss him are his siblings: James “Jimmy” Poirrier (Lisa), Margot “Maggie” Poirrier, Patrick Stark, Nicki Schwager (Kurt), Vicki Ziegler (Scot), Crystal Struthers (Bob) and Brittany Poirrier. His niece, Megan Carter (Camden) and his nephew, Ryan Poirrier (Stephanie) along with many other family and friends.

There will be no visitation or services.
