Mary Alice Patton Plummer March 25, 1930 – July 8, 2021 Mary Alice (Patton) Plummer, 91, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 8th, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born March 25th, 1930 in Springfield, Illinois, daughter of the late Alice (Cullen) and Roosevelt Enoch Patton. On Oct. 13, 1956, she married Raymond James Plummer of Altoona, in Springfield, Illinois. Surviving are her three daughters: Dr. Alice Joyce (The Honorable John Joyce, MD), Julia Plummer Schokker, and Elizabeth Plummer McGoldrick; seven grandchildren: Maj. Dean (Lindsey) Mathis, Christopher (Trisha) Mathis, Sean (Natalie) Joyce, Elizabeth and Daniel Joyce and Dr. Mary McGoldrick (fiancé Dr. Matthew Tobias) and James McGoldrick; seven great grandchildren: Natalie, Shane, Samuel, Evelyn, Josie, Cora and Genevieve; a sister-in law, Jeanne (Riley) Plummer of Hollidaysburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, a brother, Cullen; sisters, Janie (Dick) Schoenberger, and Peggy (Bob) O’Shea; and two sons-in-law: Dr. Johannes Schokker and Donald McGoldrick. Mary Alice was a 1952 graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C. with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and a minor in History. Upon completion of college, she received a scholarship to Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia to study Voice. In 1956, she met Ray, the love of her life, at an audition in Pittsburgh for the Light Opera Company and they made beautiful music together for 62 years. It was not unusual to have her Curtis friends like the Guarneri Quartet and Anna Moffo perform at her home when they visited Altoona. Mary Alice shared her talents widely as she taught voice, piano, and music theory to many pupils in Altoona for several decades. She was a member of Blair Civic Music and the Blair County Historical Society and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She loved performing in the beautiful setting of the Baker Mansion with her family. A fan of Altoona Community Theatre, Mary Alice delivered two show-stopping performances with ACT as Kate in “Kiss Me Kate” in 1963 and as Mother Abbess in “Sound of Music” in 2009. Mary Alice and her husband Ray sang together for many recitals, fundraisers and benefits including recitals in Detroit, Beijing and Russia. The duo sang everything from opera to showtunes, thrilling audiences, friends, and family with the combination of her beautiful soprano and his robust tenor. With her deep devotion to the Catholic faith and to her late husband and her three daughters, Mary Alice lived a life full of books, music, laughter, and love.

She was adored by friends and family for her kind heart, quick wit, historical perspective, and endless musical talent. Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021 at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Monsignor Stanley Carson celebrant. Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary Alice’s memory may be made to the Blair County Historical Society (Baker Mansion), 3419 Oak Lane, Altoona, PA 16602. My Dearest Mary. Joe and I appreciated yours and Ray's conversations after mass on Sundays l We Were so fortunate to have you as friends. I honestly don't know how we became friends but it was a blessing God introduced both of you to us. I am thrilled you enjoyed my holiday treats. I know they were different from what you were used to. But my mother was determined I was going to carry on the Italian tradition with her recipes and special ingredients her parents handed down from them. Thank you for inviting Me to your house for a spring tea. That was most generous of you. Unfortunately I never made it. 14 years of heart problems with joe. ( and I would have never left him alone). He was hospitalized so many times and I stayed with him every second because he was terrified. Night gown and slippers. No time to change. And then one unfortunate day , Dec 5, 2016 I found him in cardiac arrest. I did cpr and managed to get a heart beat but it wasn't good enough. Amed took him to UPMC and got him stable and life flighted him to UPMC Pittsburgh But after a long week he past on to another world. I stood at his head and held his head and begged Him to take me with him. I guess he didn't love me enough. So then a horrible depression set In. snd I lost contact With everyone. I had no desire to go on. I apologize for not going to visit you. You called me shortly after your husband pasted and you began to cry. As I was trying to comfort you my heart began to break snd I just couldn't face you in your time if sorrow. Please forgive me. You see we think we always have tomorrow but we don't. So now you are with Ray please sing with the angels and hopefully someday joe and I will join you with the angels. I visited Calvary yesterday and just as I thought u and Ray are with the Veterans. I remember him in his Whites. So handsome and you were there beside him. What a lovely couple. I will miss you and love you. May you both Rest In Peace. And I Know God has u both wrapped in his loving arms. Barbara A Francis.

To the Plummer Family. Your family was so great full to have such wonderful parents. They were the best. My husband Joe snd I were extremely fortunate to have met them at Mount Carmel It take long to become friends. And we talk after mass They would stand in line to talk to us. They are simply great. I wish we would have known them on a personal level longer. You see joe snd I were from Gallitzin and we went to the Plummer- wolf store to shop. Many people did. From the mountain. There weren't a lot of cars at that time. If so the car was used for work because of the jobs out of town. I can still see your dad sitting in the chair and your mom leaning over him. Of course he was agreeable. I remember that like it's today. Even though I was very young when my dad and I visited the store I knew she was a driving force them. I truly loved her. Not many personalities like her. I pray at least one or more of your families were blest their talents. My love to all of you. Barbara A Francis.

Our thoughts are with the Plummer family at this time of sorrow. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
