Mary H. Eakins

August 5, 1936-October 8, 2024

Mary H. Eakins, 88, Altoona, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late William Jennings and Mary Madeline (Ruffley) Lumadue.

Mary married Robert Wayland Eakins on June 4, 1960 in the Chapel at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, he preceded her in death on December 24, 2008.

Surviving are her loving children: Thomas Eakins, Karen Adams (John D., Jr.), Julie Eakins, Michelle Eakins-Wilt (Jeff Bittner) and Daniel R. Eakins (Emily) all of Altoona also, James R. Eakins (Emily R.) of Fallentimber; five grandchildren: Jessica Roland (Jimmy), Sarah, Sean, Dylan and Stella; three great-grandchildren: Lola, Colleen and Maggie. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Gebhardt and brother, Richard Lumadue; a sister-in-law, Joyce Farabaugh and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher David Adams.

She was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. Mary had worked at McCrory’s on the Avenue but ultimately loved being at home and taking care of her family.

Mary was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

She enjoyed watching the Price is Right and loved to play Pinochle.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 900 N 4th St, Altoona, PA 16601 with Fr. Nelson Javier. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
