Matthew J. Schirf, Sr. Dec. 26, 1959 – Feb. 8, 2023

Matthew J. Schirf, Sr., 63, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday at his home. He was born in Colver, PA, son of Barbara Bodenski. On Oct. 27, 1990, he married Maria C. Karnes, who he was devoted to until her passing on July 25, 2022. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Egleston of Ohio; a son, Matthew J. Jr. (Regina) of Altoona; a daughter, Angela Cobler (Daniel Jr.) of Altoona; two grandchildren, Brendan and Camden Cobler; three brothers: Timothy Schirf, Jeffery Schirf, and Doug Schirf, all of Ohio; and a sister, Tina Boden of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Schirf. Matthew was a graduate of Akron High School. He was first employed at Stroehmann’s Bakery, and recently retired from Burgmeier Hauling. Matthew was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona. He loved fishing with his grandsons, riding dirt bikes, and enjoyed hunting with his son, brothers, and nephews at their camp in Lock Haven. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers There will be no visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Monday, February 13, 2023, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona, with Father D. Timothy Grimme, celebrant.
