Obituary For Melissa A. Diminick

Melissa A. Diminick

November 27, 1964-June 5, 2025

Melissa A. Diminick, 60, of Hollidaysburg, was called home to the Lord Thursday afternoon following an 18-year journey with cancer- a battle she met with strength, grace and unwavering courage. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Donald Kelley and Evelyn (Epple) Hilldale.

Melissa’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband Scott, of 34 years; a son, Nathaniel S. Diminick (Casey) of Hollidaysburg and a daughter, Annie E. Diminick at home; one grandson, Mason; her sister, Cynthia Kelley Aslan (John) of Huntsville, AL.; her brother, Brian Kelley (Tracy) of Altoona and five nephews: Matthew, Kristopher, Aaron, Jack and Danny; and one niece, Raine.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald J. Kelley.

Melissa was a 1982 graduate of Altoona Area High School and went on to her earn her degree in Art History at Penn State University, graduating in 1989.

Melissa married the love of her life on September 22, 1990. Their love story began at Toftrees/Penn State working together as they would do the rest of her life building a loving family and home. Together, they loved to travel to picturesque and magnificent places like: whale watching in New England, enjoying nature in Banff Alberta, Canada, being the life of the party in the Florida Keys and their yearly excursion to Bethany Beach.

Nate and Annie were her life’s work and daily pride. She molded them with a kind loving heart and forever fun attitude. Nate and Melissa shared an incredible sense of humor, love for animals and he forever regard her as his moral compass. Annie and Melissa were self-described twins; they loved spending each day together talking, singing, going on outings, and sharing inside-jokes. So many regarded her love of her children as being a defining trait, the adoration and care she took in her role as a mother the ultimate joy.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church-Hollidaysburg, she led vacation bible school, youth groups and mom’s groups with compassion and conviction. Beyond her faith and her family, Melissa gave so much of herself to her friends and the community. She served as the PTO President and director of the Drama Club at CW Longer Elementary. Known for her impeccable style and undeniable taste in clothing, every room of her home and photo of her family conveyed her skill and love. She had a fond love for nature and animals, visible through her gardens and by welcoming every animal into her home or onto her deck. She built an “extended family” in her home, granting each child her love and being “Mom” to many.

There were no rules in life with Melissa. You could wake up in Pennsylvania and fall asleep that night in Disney or the beach with no notice. She possessed a magic that she shared with everyone she met and gave away selflessly at each opportunity.

Melissa’s kind heart and loving smile will be missed by so many.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm, Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, with Pastor Joleen Willis.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in Melissa’s memory to: Mending Hearts Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 97, Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.

Arrangements are provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.
