Melvin C. Woomer

March 6, 1945 – July 15, 2023

Melvin C. Woomer, 78, Altoona, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late G. Melvin and Isabel (Dunn) Woomer. He married Paulette “Paula” Scacco September 13, 1969 in Johnstown.

Surviving is his wife Paula, 2 daughters: Lori Branas (Damian) of Altoona and Karen Beldin (Bob Bailor) of Bellwood; 4 grandchildren: Damian and Andrew Branas and Gracelynn and Gabrielle Beldin; and a brother in law Guido Scacco of Branson, MO. He was preceded in death by an aunt, Ruth Dunn.

Mel was a graduate of Altoona High School and the Altoona School of Commerce. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Era, had retired as an Insurance Agent for Prudential Insurance Co. in 2004 with 35 years of service.

Mel was a member of the 2nd Ave. Church, was a 50 year member of the Logan Lodge #490 F&AM, a member of the Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star and the Jaffa Shrine, where he was a member of the Patrol Unit and the Legion of Honor.

He enjoyed bowling, was sprint race car fan and an avid football fan, especially local high school football.

All services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Alto Reste Cemetery.

The family request in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Mel’s memory.
