Merle Perry “Chip” Wagner
May 14, 1945-December 11, 2024
Merle Perry “Chip” Wagner, 79, Altoona, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born in Beacon, New York, the son of the late Merle L. and Eleanor (Weeks) Wagner.
Merle married Edith L. Smith on June 20, 1964, she preceded him in death on November 13, 2024.
He is survived by his four loving children: James L. Wagner (Renee) of Maytown, Thomas P. Wagner (Melissa) of Lititz, Melissa L. Beam (Shawn) of Hooversville and Melinda A. Fogal (Robert) of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Alexander, Patricia, Victoria, Zachary, Elizabeth, Emma, Brianna and Joseph; six great-grandchildren and his sister, Helen Warren of Rock Tavern, New York.
Chip was preceded in death by four great-grandchildren.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown where he was in the coal sample analytics department with over 25 years of service.
Chip was a former member of Riverside Grace Brethren Church, where he was the AWANA commander for many years and helped coordinate the Bus Ministry, transporting children from all areas to church services and events.
At the family’s request, there will be no visitation or services. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery.
