Marissa and I will always remember playing Pokeno down the Outer Banks. It was on that night the Uncle Mikes (Ronan and Ebersole) and I looked up from the back deck and saw the Milky Way stretching across the black sky. We stood in reverent awe and marveled at how vast it was in juxtaposition to our own smallness. We laughed so hard that night, a family together delightfully drinking, playing, and joking. Our faces hurt from the constant smiles and we lauded and teased Mike as he won every hand. I remember Aunt Amy's complicity in switching out Aunt Rosanne's cards with Marissa and how she feigned innocence shifting the blame solely to Marissa who vowed revenge, Mike and all of us laughing, his face emblazoned with that broad smile as big as the Milky Way. Mike and I bonded over our shared political humor. Always sending texts of memes. I will miss those times when my phone would light up and I see his name knowing something funny was about to be revealed. Or being able to send him a text and awaiting his response.
