May 22, 1951-October 24, 2023

Michael J. Ronan, Jr., 72, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona following an extended illness.

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Michael J. and Anna I. (Powell) Ronan, Sr. Michael married Rosanne M. Ebersole on June 5, 1971 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; two sons: Ian Ronan (Brandy) of Altoona and Matt Ronan (Cathy) of Hollidaysburg; six grandchildren: Jennalee, Payton, Kiera, Matthew, Colin and Michael; a great-grandson, Luca and a second great-grandson on the way; two brothers: Kevin B. Ronan (Vicki) of Pensacola, FL and Timothy J. Ronan of Jacksonville, FL; and two sisters: Patricia A. Tate (Mark) of Carlisle and Diane M. Bowers (Kent) of Roaring Spring; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his aunt Betty Schimminger.

He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Jorgia Ronan on Oct. 23, 2023.

Michael was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School and had attended Penn State University.

He retired as an electrician from Norfolk Southern in 2011 with 30 years of service. Michael had been a P.I.A.A basketball and volleyball official for 20 years.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and was a life-time member of the Bavarian Aid Society.

Michael enjoyed hunting and coaching basketball for McNelis for many years. He loved his dogs: Buddy, Chestie, Snappy Dog and Katie. Michael looked forward to his yearly trips to Hatteras Island, North Carolina, Caribbean Cruises and going to concerts; but he especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandson.

Friends will be received from 3-6 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, Pa. 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, 1 Cathedral Square, Altoona, Pa. 16601 with Msgr. Stanley Carson. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

    Dear Roseanne and Family and dear Cousins Patty, Kevin, Timmy, and Diane. I was so very sorry to learn of our cousin Mikey's death and of the recent death of Jorgia, Timmy's wife. Please know that I keep all of you in my prayers and that Masses are even now being offered for their eternal rest.
