Obituary For Monte B. Smith

Monte B. Smith

July 17, 1962-February 10, 2025

Monte B. Smith, 62, Roaring Spring, passed away Monday at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

He married Kim A. Kiesewetter on July 25, 1998.

Monte is survived by his loving wife of 26 years; his son, Hunter W. Smith and daughter, Madison B. Smith both at home and daughter, Mickie R. Smith (fiancé, Austin) of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold W. Smith.

He was a 1980 graduate of Central High School and a 1984 graduate of Shippensburg University, where he played baseball.

Monte retired from the Everett School District after 33 years of service, where he coached baseball, basketball and football. After his retirement from the school district he worked at Courtesy Dodge in the service department.

He enjoyed hunting and loved his dogs, especially, Abby, Nike and J.J.

Monte played baseball for the Altoona City League and coached Spring Cove Little League Baseball, Spring Cove Middle School Baseball, Flood City Baseball and Spring Cove Youth Football.

Above all, he loved his wife and his children.

Friends will be received from 2-6 pm, Sunday, February 16, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Monday, February 17, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 704 Patrick Lane, Newry, PA 16665, with Fr. Allen P. Zeth, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

    I was a TSS in Mr. Smith's class years ago. He was a nice man and excellent teacher. I was saddened to hear of his illness and passing. My sincere sympathies to his family.

    I got to know Monte as a fellow parts driver, he always had a positive attitude and left you laughing. I will miss him. RIP.

    Mr. Smith was my 6th grade teacher at Everett Elementary. He was tough but yet so kind. I am so saddened about his passing. May God Bless his family and loved ones. Good educators are now rare these days. He was one of the good ones❤️

    As one of Mr. Smith's 6th grade students, I have many fond memories of him and will never hear a song by Chicago without thinking of him (he used to play the tapes in class!)! Sending many prayers for comfort for all who loved him!
