Obituary For Nancy Jane Lafferty

Nancy Jane Lafferty

April 18, 1935-December 18, 2025

Nancy Jane Lafferty, 90, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Thursday, with loving family by her side. Nancy was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Mary Anne (Guglielmucci) Spinazzola and Anthony William Spinazzola. Nancy was raised in a large household, with a cherished older brother Angelo and two older sisters, Ella and Dorothy (all previously deceased). Surviving are two sons- David Edward and his wife, Julia (Feathers) Lafferty, and their daughters Alexa Clare and Olivia Grace; and Anthony and his wife, Rebecca (Anderson) Wasson, and their sons Benjamin, Connor (Anna) and Cole. She was blessed with the longevity to cherish the memories of countless friends that she accumulated over a lifetime. After graduating from Bellwood Antis High School, Nancy met and married Edward Lafferty, the love of her life, and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2023.

Nancy was a career woman from a young age, starting out as a print model for several local clothing stores, and spending years in retail fashion sales. As they say, Nancy truly possessed great genes. With that smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye, she always presented herself with style and elegance and cleverly concealed her mischievous tendencies. She was the strongest advocate for her children, and fearless when faced with adversity. Her true passion was giving back to those less fortunate in the community and spending countless hours caring for her family members.

Mom’s life revolved around her family, her home, her children, and her dogs. She became a highly skilled home chef, and Christmas Eve meals were legendary-an Italian seafood extravaganza. Christmas day always meant homemade ravioli. She instilled her love of cooking in her children and grandchildren, who routinely carry out the traditions and recipes that she so lovingly shared. She also loved to dance with Ed, travel, speak Italian, and spoil her Irish Setters. Mom enjoyed vacationing at the beach and enjoyed our yearly family visits to Atlantic City back in the day. In later years, Ed and Nancy enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren whom they adored.

A very special thank you to all the staff of Graystone Manor in Bellemeade for their outstanding care of “Fancy Nancy”, and the kind and caring residents that make this a remarkable place.

Per Mom’s wishes, a private celebration will be held at the convenience of her immediate family.

In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, please say a prayer for Nancy, and reflect on a personal moment or memory that you may have shared.

Arrangements are provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602.

I worked with Nancy at Chic wigs in the station mall. I met both of her boys and her husband. Nancy was the most beautiful woman that walked that mall.

To the Lafferty Family, there is no one in this world like a mother, she is a very special person, and she will always be with you. She is now free. May you find comfort with all the loving memories. May God Bless Nancy.
