June 25, 1941-October 25, 2025

Norma J. Weidlich, 84, The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville, formerly of Altoona, died Saturday October 25, 2025 at UPMC Altoona following an extended illness. She was born June 25, 1941 in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Clyde and Anna (Kifer) Helsel.

She was married 3 times: first to Stanley R. Shaffer who preceded her in March of 2021, second to Ronald W. Robeson who preceded her in October of 2021 and third to Paul S. Weidlich who preceded her in December of 2015.

Norma is survived by 4 children: Jamie (Jay) McDuffie of Birmingham, AL, Michael (Theresa) Shaffer of LaGrange, GA, Kevin (Michelle) Shaffer of Dallas ,TX and Susan (Paul) Furrer of Altoona; 6 grandchildren: Shannon (Ryan) Shaffer-Shannon, Dillon Shaffer, Sarina (Simms) Newell, Alaina Bonnet, Siera Shaffer and Matthew Furrer; 3 great grandchildren: Kailah (Tristen) Fall-Hood, Cameron Shannon and Perrin Newell ; a sister, Kay Merritts of Hollidaysburg. She was preceded in death by 5 sisters and a brother.

Norma was a 1959 graduate of Bean Hill High School, Martinsburg, she retired from Altoona Regional Hospital as Head Cashier from the food service department with 34 years of service. She was a member of 1st Church of God and enjoyed Nintendo WII bowling, canasta, sewing, quilting and her Bible studies at the Graystone.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm, Wednesday, October 29,2025 at The Stevens Mortuary Inc. 1421 8th Ave. Altoona. A funeral service for Norma will be held at 11am Thursday October 30, 2025 in the Stevens Memorial Chapel by Rev. Dale DiBernardinis. Committal will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Alzheimers Association 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 OR to the American Cancer Society in Norma’s memory.

    I am so so sorry for your loss.. I will be thinking of you all at this time.. I had such a bond with your mother, we were friends and I looked forward to our conversations every week..
