Paul J. Fagley

Paul J. Fagley, 94, Altoona, passed away Wednesday morning at The Village at Morrisons Cove. He was born in Tyrone, the son of the late Joseph and Lucinda (Reese) Fagley.

Paul married Janet P. Bice in 1950, she preceded him in death on Christmas Eve 2005 after 55 years of marriage.

He will be deeply missed by the surviving members of his family, his two sons: Paul J. Fagley II and wife Terry of Wellington, FL, J. Timothy Fagley and wife Marty of Highlands Ranch, CO and his daughter, Diane Perry and husband Bill of Duncansville; six grandchildren: Paul J. Fagley III (Julie), Jay Fagley (Allison), Eric Fagley (Sara), Gretchen Johnson (Jeremiah), Cody Fagley (Lisa) and Bridget Perry; ten great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Christopher, Lauren, Connor, Brayden, Cooper, Shaylee, Ashlyn, Kinley and Elsie.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Laura Fagley; sisters: Myrtle Haines and Helen Skinner and his special friend, Helen “DeDe” Curran.

Paul’s passion for music was a key part of his life and was evident by the fact that he was an Altoona High School graduate that marched in various nationally known parades, one being the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington DC. He then served our nation in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, in which he was assigned to the US Army Band, where he played a variety of instruments.

Paul retired from Peoples Natural Gas Co. with over 40 years of service as their Supervisor of Customer Service for the Altoona Division where he was also elected to the position of Union Representative of the Local SIEU for that organization.

He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

Paul was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt. He was involved in many different facets of the community, serving as a member of the Cresson Area School District School Board. Paul was also a dedicated member of the Lions Club for over 40 years, during which he attended many meetings throughout the United States and was recognized by the Lions time and time again for his support of their many charitable events, while he served in various leadership positions at the district and state level.

Paul was proud of his mechanical abilities and could repair almost anything and this led to one of his most favorite sayings, “If I can’t fix it, it’s not broken!” This was certainly proven time and time again in almost every circumstance.

His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with their continued passion for playing musical instruments, loving to hunt and fish, their participation in many different sports and their strong work ethic. Paul will always be remembered for this and so much more.

Friends will be received from 1-2 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 308 Old Route 22, Duncansville, PA 16635, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 pm, with Rev. Jeremy J. Mohler, celebrant. Committal with military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
