Pearl P. Calderon

July 27, 1926-May 12, 2024

Pearl P. Calderon, 97, Altoona, previously of Duncansville, passed away Sunday at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was born in Summerhill Township, Cambria County, the daughter of the late W. Earl and Gladys L. (Ritchey) Diehl.

Pearl married Theodore D. Calderon on December 19, 1942, he preceded her in death on January 6, 2015.

She is survived by her three daughters: Joan L. Weidlich of Altoona, Donna J. Claycomb of Osterburg and Diane E. Cashman (Michael) of Greenwood; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Pearl was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by her siblings: C. Earl, Forrest B. and Darrell R., Glenn D. Diehl, Twilet A. Corle and Velma L. Estep.

She had worked in food service for many years, where she worked in the Altoona Area High School cafeteria, Lucard’s Bake Shop, Gables Department Store Restaurant and finished her career in Mercer, PA.

When Pearl was 15 years old, she sang, yodeled and played the guitar with a local band of the day, The Blue Knob Ramblers.

She enjoyed listening to Pastors Gary Dull and Jimmy Swaggart and liked to assist with teaching Sunday School. Pearl spent her time doing needle point, but especially loved to cook and bake for her family.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm, Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602. A funeral service will be held 11 am, Thursday, May 16, 2024 in the Stevens Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Gary Dull. Committal will be held in New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
