Obituary For Ralph "Tom" T. Mangus

Ralph T. “Tom” Mangus July 31, 1930 - January 28, 2023

Ralph T. “Tom” Mangus, 92 of Altoona passed away Saturday afternoon at the James E VanZandt Veterans Medical Center, Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Ralph W. and Frances (Smeal) Mangus. Surviving are two daughters: Renee Milliron (Michael) and Lisa Logan (Richard) both of Altoona; two grandchildren: Jennifer Traficante (Brandon) and Steven Milliron; also surviving is a great-grandson Beau Traficante. Tom was preceded in death by his former wives Dawn Mangus, the mother of his children, Mary Mangus, and Shirley Mangus. Also preceding him in death were a sister Florence Conrad, a brother Donald W. Mangus, brother-in-law, Russell Conrad and sister-in-law, Beulah Mangus. He was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School and achieved an Associate Degree in Accounting from the Altoona School of Commerce. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War awarded the Soldiers Medal for Heroism. He retired as the Chief Clerk to the Blair County Commissioners, after 32 years of service. Tom was a devout Christian. He enjoyed bowling and woodworking. He was a member of the Jaffa Shrine Greeters unit, Logan Lodge #490 F&A.M. and a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society. There will be no visitation and services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602. The family requests that contributions be made in Tom’s memory to: Shriners Children’s Hospital, 3551 N Broad St, Philadelphia, Pa. 19140.     Tom was our friend and next-door neighbor for over twenty years . We miss the projects, chats, and coffee breaks we shared together . He was an old fashioned, kind, friendly gentleman, one of the Great Generation. The neighborhood won't be the same.
