Rev. Denise M. Arpino, 64, Altoona, passed away Monday at her residence after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer.
She was born in San Diego, California, the daughter of Doris (Reinke) Dahlke and the late Howard Dahlke.
Denise is survived by her children and their spouses: Isaiah Charles and Holly Arpino of Altoona and Sarah and Steffan Langguth of Mt. Lebanon; a grandson, Oliver; her mother, Doris and siblings: Dan Dahlke, Doug Dahlke (Eve), and Pam Ehlers.
She was a graduate of Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Ill. Denise went on to Augustana College of Rock Island, Ill. and Lutheran Theological Seminary of Gettysburg.
Denise was a faithful servant of the Lord and lived out God’s word each day. She served as Pastor at Sidman-Elton Lutheran Church; and at: Trinity Lutheran in Sidman. She served as an Associate Pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Juniata, Altoona, and spent a majority of her ministry serving as the Pastor at Simpson-Temple United Parish for 20 years. Denise was also a part-time Chaplain at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center.
Through her work with the community, Denise was recognized with the 2006
Tribute to Women Award for Humanism. She served as a board member of the Brian Morden Foundation and as a board member for Family Services of Blair County. She was an avid Altoona Curve Baseball fan and gave of her time and talents, traveling to El Salvador for a mission trip with Living Water International.
Denise also enjoyed reading, music and spending time with her children and her grandson.
Friends will be received from 4-7 pm, Friday, July 7, 2023 at the Stevens Mortuary, Inc, 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, Pa 16648.
