Richard George Bell, 99, of Pompano Beach, Florida, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 28, 2026. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late David and Esther (Miller) Bell.

Richard was married to Mary Janet Borland of Altoona, for 57 years, prior to her death in 2006.

After Altoona High School, Dick was drafted into the U.S. Army, stationed at Camp Croft, South Carolina, then Fort Benning, Georgia. After being honorably discharged, he joined his dad’s auto agency in St. Mary’s, then returned to Altoona with Libby, McNeill & Libby. He spent 20 years with Libby’s, transferring to Philadelphia, then to Cleveland, Ohio. Dick then joined KMH Food Brokers in Shaker Heights, Ohio, until his retirement 20 years later.

He and his wife, Janet, retired to Pompano Beach, where he served for 18 years on his condo’s board: 15 years as president, 2 years as treasurer and 1 as a director.

Dick is survived by two daughters: Rebecca Bell Howe and husband Robert of Akron, Ohio and Christine Bell Lane and husband, Andy of Houston, Texas; grandsons: Andrew Lane of Denver, Colorado and David Lane of Houston, Texas; his brother-in-law, Fred Woods of Altoona and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Bell Woods of Altoona and a granddaughter, Kasey Phillips.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
