Obituary For Richard H. Hilsinger

Richard H. Hilsinger Aug. 14, 1930-Oct. 15, 2022

Richard H. Hilsinger, 92, Altoona, passed away at his home after an extended illness. He married Anne Anargyros in New York City, on December 24, 1950. Surviving are three children: Elaine Condrin (Patrick) of Altoona, Glenn Hilsinger (Amy Mansue) of New Jersey and Jeff Hilsinger (Kathy) of South Carolina; four grandchildren: Maureen Condrin Cleary (Joe), Kevin Condrin, Claire Hilsinger and Jack Hilsinger; and great-granddaughter, Hazel Anne Cleary. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Anne in 2013; his brother, Roderick and two half-brothers. Richard and Rod were raised in a school for orphaned children in upstate New York. He always said it was a wonderful experience. He graduated Pratt Institute in New York City for chemical engineering, where he met Anne. Serving in the US Navy as a Naval officer, LTJG, they were stationed in Pearl Harbor during the Korean War, where he served on the USS Cambria. Richard later settled with Anne in Westfield, NJ and raised their family. He began his career as a draftsman at the original Alpha Metals in Jersey City, NJ and remained until retirement as Vice-President of Corporate Development for Cookson Alpha. During his career, Richard, designed and built factories on 6 of the 7 continents. Richard and Anne traveled the world and lived for 3 years in Hong Kong. Richard’s passions were flying and scuba diving. He often said both gave him the same feeling of freedom. In 1956, he was on one of the first dive teams to reach the wreck of the Andrea Doria. They traveled for a time on their boat, Ariel, before building a home in Florida. From there they moved to Altoona to be closer to family. Richard loved his Aldrich Avenue neighborhood and his kind and friendly neighbors. He dearly loved his caregiving ladies who cared for him with such love and respect. They are truly angels. He loved visits from friends and family, especially his great-granddaughter, Hazel Anne. Richard’s family would like to especially thank Family Hospice and their wonderful staff. Also, Dr. Charles Dombrowski and Dr. Michael Schlechter for their kind and respectful care over the years. At Richards request, there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. Condolences may be made at www.stevensfamilyfuneralhomes.com or Stevens Family Funeral Homes Facebook.
