Richard M. Soller, 93, of Altoona, passed away Saturday at Hilltop Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Leonard M. and Lottie (Cassidy) Soller.
Richard married Cecile A. Crum on September 17, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland, she preceded him in death on October 3, 2012.
He is survived by three children: Richard M. Soller, II (Annette) of LaJose, Douglas P. Soller of Round Hill, VA and Michelle Seymore (Brian) of Altoona; nine grandchildren: Ryan Soller, Michael Crist, Emma Cecile Soller, Zachary, Jacob and Lucas Seymore; Amber Hutton, Kristin and Brian Crynock; seven great grandchildren: Zachary, Gavin, Camdon, Gabriel, Scarlett, Margot and Kylah.
Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Goss.
Richard was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School and went on to serve our country in the US Army, during the Korean War; he was the recipient of the Ambassador of Peace Award.
He retired in 1996 as a printer for the Altoona Mirror after 38 years of service.
Richard was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was a volunteer at the food pantry.
He had been a member of the Communications Workers Union, the Bavarian Aid Society and the American Legion.
Richard enjoyed volunteering his time at Sr. Paula’s Food for Families Soup Kitchen. He also liked bowling, woodworking, fishing, traveling and ultimately, loved spending time with his family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Friday, September 12,2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th Street, Altoona, PA 16602 with Fr. Lubomir Strecok, celebrant.
The family suggests that contributions be made in Richard’s memory to: Sister Paula’s Food for Families, 2201 Union Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602.
Committal with military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
