Richard J. “Rich” Andrews

January 12, 1944-August 28, 2023

Richard J. “Rich” Andrews, 79, Altoona, passed away Monday morning at Midtown Oaks Health and Rehab Center.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Wasylisian)Andrews. Rich married Beth Ann Furrer at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona on May 27, 1967.

Rich is survived by his loving wife and son, Matthew Andrews and wife, Alicia; two grandchildren: Anabeth and Charlotte Andrews all of Altoona; he is also survived by two brothers: Thomas and Donald Andrews both of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by a brother Eugene Andrews.

Rich was a graduate of Altoona High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and master’s degree from Purdue University. He had done his graduate work in chemistry at the University of Maryland and the University of Southern California at Oakland.

He was a Teacher and Professor of chemistry at Altoona Area High School, Penn State University-Altoona and Mount Aloysius College. Rich had been a member of PSEA, NEA and the Altoona Area Teachers Association, where he was chief negotiator for 20 years. He was also a member of the Zoning Hearing Board for the city of Altoona.

Friends will be received from 10-11 am, Thursday, August 31, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 11 am by Rev. Dr. Barry R. Folmar.
