Obituary For Robert E. Decker

Robert E. Decker September 5, 1938-May 27, 2025

Robert E. Decker, 86, of Altoona, passed away at his residence early Tuesday morning. He was born in Goshen, New York, the son of the late Frank and Ethel (McCombs) Decker.

Robert married Bonnie L. Powell at the Penn State Altoona-Edith Davis Eve Memorial Chapel on October 8, 1983.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years; a son, Brian Decker of Tennessee; a daughter, Helene Gardner (Jason) of Duncansville; two stepsons: Robert L. Stoudnour (Margaret) of York and Eric S. Stoudnour (Kelli) of Hollidaysburg; one grandson, Benjamin Satka and two step grandchildren: Taylor Lee and Hunter Scott Stoudnour; also, his brother, Donald Decker of New York.

Robert retired as a Master Sergeant in 1977 from the US Air Force after 20 years of service which included service in the Vietnam war from 1970 through 1971. He later worked for Courtesy Motors in the parts department.

Robert was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Coalport VFW.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on model airplanes and was a fan of the Indy 500, where he attended 15 races or so.

Friends will be received from 3-6 pm, Thursday, May 29, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am, Friday, May 30, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 511 20th St., Altoona, PA 16602 with Fr. Lubomir Strecok, celebrant. Committal with military honors will be held at Alto-Reste Park.

    Bob will be sincerely missed. His humor and caring were beyond compare. He was truly one of a kind, and will never be forgotten. Many thoughts and prayers for the family and friends of this wonderful human being.
