Obituary For Robert H. Mains

Robert H. Mains March 3, 1926-Dec. 2, 2021

Robert H. Mains, 95, Altoona, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late J. Elmer and Lillian Belle (Galbraith) Mains. Robert married Jane M. Rhodes, she preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2015. Robert is survived by a son, David J. (Mary) Mains; two daughters: Roberta J. (Gary) Horton and Nancy R. (Kevin) John all of Altoona; four grandchildren: Robert and Phillip Mains, Mark Horton and Katherine Stewart; eight great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Jack Feathers of VA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two sisters: Mary Mains Galant and Donna Mains Feathers. Robert was a 1944 graduate of Altoona High School prior to his service with the US Navy in WWII as a 2nd Class Radioman and Navigator on a TBM Bomber. He retired in 1988 as a Route Salesman with Stroehmann Bros. Bakery with 25 years of service. Robert was a member at Garden Heights United Methodist Church prior to its closure, then attended St. John’s Reformed Church in Hollidaysburg and lastly was attending Greenwood United Methodist Church. He was an active 32nd Degree member of the Jaffa Shrine where he was a member of the Road Runners, Oriental Band and was a Circus Usher. Robert enjoyed helping with the Tour De Toona as a volunteer and was a member of the Blue Knob Courtesy Ski Patrol. He enjoyed spending his spare-time skiing, bowling, golfing and bicycling. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602 and from 10 to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021 at Greenwood United Methodist Church, 1505 E. Walton Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602 with Pastor Duane J. Coy. Interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Jaffa Shrine/Road Runners, 2200 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16601, Greenwood United Methodist Church, 1505 E. Walton Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602 or St. John’s Reformed Church, 904 Maple Ave. Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.
