Obituary For Robert L. Hammaker

Robert L. Hammaker Oct. 7, 1938-Oct. 25, 2021

Robert L. Hammaker, 83, of Altoona passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona following complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Hollidaysburg, the son of the late Herbert and Lovetta (Nicodemus) Hammaker. Robert married Rosella Ann Snyder on January 14, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Rosella preceded him in death, after 59 years of marriage on May 21, 2020. Robert is survived by a son, Robert L. (Katie) Hammaker, Jr. and a daughter, Kristen (Damon) Luciano all of Altoona; five grandchildren: Travis Hammaker, Courtney Hammaker (Brian Pheasant), Braeden (Elizabeth) Luciano, Brennan Luciano (Courtney Chamberlain) and Brianna (Kristopher) Henninger; three great-grandchildren: Isabella Luciano, Declan Luciano and Kolson Henninger; a brother, Joseph Hammaker of Centre Hall and a sister, Judith Gates of WA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Hammaker and six sisters: Twyla Kuhn, Dorothy Barthlow, Lulu Chastain, Elizabeth Fleck, Linda Hammaker and Eileen Hoover. Robert was a 1957 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School and he was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He retired from Pipefitters Local 354 with 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Robert was an avid Notre Dame fan and belonged to the Altoona Notre Dame Booster Club. He was a basketball coach and took the St. Marks Boys team to 2 Diocesan Championships. Robert was also the coach for St. Mary’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. He enjoyed coaching baseball as well and was a long-time baseball umpire. Robert was an avid hunter and loved traveling to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602 where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 416 6th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602 by Fr. Ronald Osinski.
