Obituary For Rodney Joseph Swemba

April 12, 1966-October 29, 2023

Rodney J. Swemba, 57, Altoona, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona following complications from oral cancer.

He was born in Spangler, PA the son of Stanley Swemba and the late MaryAnn (McCloskey) Swemba.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Ricky” Swemba.

Rodney is survived by three children: Rodney Scott Swemba (Heather) of Pittsburgh, Ashlee Hillegas (Roger) of Newnan, GA and Jennifer Wogan (Trey) of Pueblo, CO; six grandchildren: Parker, Daphne, Mason, Myha, Brycen and Harper; his father, Stanley and stepmother, Dee of Tyrone; sister, Tisha McCaulley of Altoona, with whom he resided; his brother, Michael Swemba (Therese) of Ashville. He is also survived by nephew, Jeffrey (Ashlee) and niece Haylee. Two great-nieces: Aubrey and Alyson; and his former spouse, Cindy Blackburn.

Rodney was a 1984 graduate of Altoona Area High School and attended Penn State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during Operation Desert Storm.

During the past 20 years, Rodney was employed with ServPro of Altoona, where he was a Supervisor.

He was a lifetime member of Mountain Top Sportsman’s Club-Coupon.

Rodney loved to fish with his grandchildren, enjoyed shooting pool, spending time outdoors and riding his 4-wheeler.

A celebration of life will be held at the Mountain Top Sportsman’s Club, 305 Maple St, Ashville, PA 16613, on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023 at 3:00 pm. Interment will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.

    Its so heartbreaking to know that he is no longer with us! I will miss our conversations! He taught me so much on finish carpentry and I never got to tell him thanks! R.I.P my friend you're already missed greatly! Prayers to all his family members!

    One of my favorite memories, is the time we rode out in a large group from the sportsman's club to the lookout on 4-wheelers. The look-out is such a beautiful site! That day was a lot of fun!!
