Ronald E. Brown, 80, Altoona, went home to be with our Lord, Saturday afternoon at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his loving families after battling lung cancer.

He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John E. and Geraldine (Frank) Brown, Sr. Ronald married Janet C. (Jones) McGill on October 9, 1999 in Altoona.

Ron is survived by his loving wife; his son, Tim Brown (Sandi Becker) of CA; two daughters: Lori McKendree (Kirk) of Altoona, and Stephanie Shay of CT; two step-daughters: Denise Baranik (Tim) of Hollidaysburg and Carol McGill-Hall (Brian) of Dillsburg, PA; nine grandchildren: Joshua Brown (Emily Wical), Talon & Arden McKendree, Carter & Kyle Shay; Emily Baranik (fiancé-Tom Brunt), Adam Baranik, Boies Hall (Marina McKinney) & Ian Hall; his four siblings: John E. Brown, Jr., Michael Brown (Beverly), Patricia Reimer and Kathleen Harella (Joseph) all of Altoona; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Patricia Brown; brother-in-law, William Reimer; a granddaughter, Kourtney Brown and a step-grandson, Michael Baranik.

Ron was a graduate of Altoona High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for two years during the Vietnam War, he continued his service for 25 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

He retired with 34 years from Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked in “The Storehouse”. Ron had been at the Sam Rea Shop, South Altoona and the Juniata Shops.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Ron was a life-time member of the Navy Enlisted Reserves Association (NERA). He was a life-time member of the Navy League. A member of Fleet Reserve Association (FRA). He was a member of the American Legion Post 0827 and the Huntingdon VFW Post 1754. Ron was a life-time member of the Bavarian Aid Society and had been a member of the former Golden Nugget Dance Club.

In the past, Ron was an artist and sold several pieces of his work and won several honorable mention awards, so it was no wonder he liked being a member of Arts in Common.

Ron enjoyed traveling, cruising, and was an avid sports fan of the PSU Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Altoona Mt. Lions. He was truly in his element when spending time with his cherished family.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm, Friday, February 16, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am, Saturday, February 17, 2024 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona, celebrant Fr. John Lynam. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery, with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in the form of: masses to be said in Ron’s memory at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5514 Roselawn Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, Pa. 16602 or a charity of your choice.
