Roy W. Harpster, Jr.

June 7, 1942-November 26, 2023

Roy William Harpster, Jr., age 81, of Altoona, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday at UPMC Altoona following a brief illness.

He was born June 7, 1942, the son of Roy Sr. and Marjorie (Fleck) Harpster. A 1960 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, he married Dorothy J. Marinello on July 20, 1963.

Roy was Dottie’s beloved husband for 60 years. He was a devoted father to sons Jeffrey (Kathy) of Altoona, Jason (Bobbie) of Sinking Valley, and daughter Jennel Miller (Jason) of Tipton. He was the grandfather to four: Brandon (MacKenzie), Cody, Jayce, and Jacob. He is also survived by brother Albert (Carmen) of Sinking Valley.

Mr. Harpster was employed at SKF Industries for 39 years and retired as a channel engineer. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, working in his machine shop, going to camp, and being “Pappy” to his family. He was a member of various local social clubs and an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing or visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 2, at Tipton Baptist Church, 708 Deborah Street, Tipton.

Arrangements are provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602.

    I am so sorry to hear of Roy's passing. I worked with Roy as a "young" engineer at SKF for 8 years. He was a very knowledgeable and personable man and I always loved to hear him tell stories of SKF in the "old days". His desk was directly in front of mine in the up stairs mezzanine.
