Ruby F. (Smith) Crosby Jan. 10, 1941-March 19, 2023

Ruby F. (Smith) Crosby, 82, Altoona, formerly of Emporium, passed away Sunday, after a brief illness at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care. She was born in Alum Bank, the daughter of the late Elmer and Hazel (McMasters) Smith. Ruby was also preceded in death by her stepfather, John Fanella and stepmother, Norma Smith. Ruby is survived by her son, Jeffrey Shaner of Jewett City, Conn; her daughter, Theresa Sackett (Terry) of Altoona; a brother, Roy Smith (Trudy) and sister, Joanna Hale all of Altoona; a stepsister, Patricia Knies (David) of Chesterton, Indiana; several nieces and nephews; also her grand-fur baby, Hattie. She was preceded in death by her two husbands: William Shaner and Allan Crosby. Ruby was a 1959 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a Quality Control Inspector from PA Pressed Metals of Emporium, with 30 years of service. Ruby had previously worked at Sylvania in Altoona. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan, enjoyed music, especially singing for weddings and funerals. Ruby was an excellent cook and baker. She also enjoyed collecting Native American artwork. Ruby’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care for the excellent care that Ruby received during her stay. Friends will be received from 5-8 pm on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 24, 2023 in the Stevens Memorial Chapel with Rev. Douglas McGaffin. Interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park.
