Obituary For Shirley A. Adams

Shirley A. Adams Sept. 2, 1930-Feb. 16, 2023

Shirley A. Adams, 92, Hollidaysburg, passed away Thursday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Rorick) Butler. Shirley married Henry W. Adams on Oct. 7, 1950 in Scranton, he preceded her in death on April 10, 2015. Shirley is survived by her son, Michael Adams of Altoona and her daughter, Joan Marie Muriceak (Jeffrey) of Hollidaysburg; three grandchildren: Matthew Adams, Claire and Grace Muriceak; and her brother, Michael Butler of Sewell, NJ. She was a 1948 graduate of Minooka High School. Shirley retired after over 30 years of service as Judge Hiram Carpenter’s secretary. Shirley was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Hollidaysburg. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her family. Friends will be received from 9-11 am Monday, Feb. 20, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am with Fr. Alan Thomas. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are provided by The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602.     During my 25 years as a Central Office administrator in the Altoona Area School District I became acquainted with many fantastic people - and Shirley Adams was one of them. When she attended a variety of AASD functions with her husband, Henry, she always went out of her way to converse, ask about my family, and exhibit kindness at every opportunity. I know she was highly-regarded at the Blair County Courthouse for many of the same reasons during her years in Judge Carpenter's office. Please be sure you are in my thoughts and prayers.
