Obituary For Shirley E. Moreland

Shirley E. Moreland May 29, 1922-June 25, 2021

Shirley E. Moreland, 99, affectionately known as Aunt Shirley, passed away Friday, at Maybrook Hills Rehab and Healthcare Facility. She was born in Altoona the daughter of the late Emery and Bessie (Shover) Brumbaugh. Shirley was a devoted and loving daughter to her beloved mother, with whom she lived with and cared for until Bessie’s passing at 99. She married Philip Moreland on Nov. 17, 1942, he preceded her in death. Shirley is survived by a beloved nephew, Thomas Brumbaugh of Reedsville; great-niece, Jacqueline Mayers and great-great nephew, Nicholas (Melissa) Mayers all of State College; sister-in-law, Gladys Moyer of Altoona; a cousin, Kay Benbrooks of Beaverton, OR and her special friends, Jan and Herb Stoltz. She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Brumbaugh. Shirley was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School and retired from Sylvania. Shirley was known for her flower gardening. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, fishing trips with her husband and brother, going to Atlantic City with her best friend, Judy, reading romance novels and enjoyed playing Bingo. She had befriended some special friends at Maybrook Hills, Barb and Bob McPhee and loved spending time with them. Friends will be received from 1-3 pm Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16602, immediately followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm in The Stevens Memorial Chapel with Pastor Douglas McGaffin officiating.
