Obituary For Shirley M. Hoover

Shirley M. Hoover April 17, 1928-May 5, 2021

Shirley M. Hoover, 93, of Altoona, passed away at home on Wednesday after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, the daughter of the late Leroy and Elizabeth (Reese) Mower. Shirley was twice married, first to George V. Detterbeck, Jr. and then to William B. Hoover, whom she married on July 1, 1975 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1999. Shirley is survived by a daughter, Rebecca D. Bosserman of Altoona; two sisters, Joan Eckard of Painesville, OH and Donna Kisslick of State College; and a daughter-in-law, Marcella Detterbeck of Altoona; 7 grandchildren: Tim and David Detterbeck, Danielle Walter, Matt and Marshall Foust, Amanda Marton and Alycia Thompson; 14 great-grandchildren; three step-children and six step-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends that will sadly miss her. She was preceded in death by a son Gregory D. Detterbeck; her sister, Eileen E. Bennett; and a brother, Leroy E. Mower. Shirley attended Altoona High School and retired from Altoona Hospital Dietary. She enjoyed doing puzzles, fishing, traveling, photography and spending time with her family. Shirley was truly the most wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. There will be no visitation or funeral services.
