Thomas F. Wilt, 95, Altoona, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning at the Graystone Manor-Bellmeade. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Forrest A. and Hazel M. (Perry) Wilt.
Thomas married Joanne B. Ferris on May 1, 1955, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church she preceded him in death on April 29, 2013.
He is survived by two sons: Corey T. Wilt (Patti) and Craig T. Wilt (fiancé, Tracy Marrapode) all of Altoona; two grandchildren: Cody Wilt (Allison) and Brandi Hertzler (Tyler); two sisters-in-law: Jackie Riccio (Richard) and Mona Ferris; niece, Allison Ferris; nephews: Jodi Wilt, Philip Riccio, George Ferris, Brad Ferris and Mike Foose.
Thomas was preceded in death by his brothers: Arthur Wilt, infants: Robert & Alfred; infant sister, Patricia Wilt; brother-in-law, George Ferris; sister-in-law, Mary Foose (James); niece, Renee McCutchan and nephew, George Foose.
He was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. Thomas served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951-1953, where he was an 81 mm Mortar Instructor.
He retired as a repairman with over 48 years of service with Carnegie Equipment/Amusement Games and Appliance. Thomas continued however to work independently. He had previously worked at Brent Optical.
Thomas was a member at St. Georges Antiochian Orthodox Church.
He enjoyed playing softball for the Grand Hotel and Phoenix softball teams and had been a longtime little league baseball coach. Thomas enjoyed crafts, toy trains, and playing amusement games. He especially loved spending time with his family, entertaining them and their friends with his stories.
Friends will be received from 4-8 pm, Monday, August 26, 2024 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a Trisagion service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 519 58th St, Altoona, PA 16602, with Rev. Fr. Isaac Danevicius. Committal with military honors will be held at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
