Obituary For Thomas John Kristofco

Thomas John Kristofco
June 24, 1960 - September 27, 2023
Thomas John Kristofco, 63, Royersford, Pa, formerly of Altoona, Hollidaysburg and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away Wednesday surrounded by family.

An altruistic husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, Tom was born in Altoona, PA to Edward and Clara (Loria) Kristofco. He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Horell, on July 16, 1983 and together they proudly and exceptionally raised their two daughters. Tom graduated from Bishop Guilfoyle High School, and subsequently matriculated from Saint Francis College with a BS degree in Accounting with honors and obtained his CPA licensure.

Highlights from his professional career include founding and growing Blair Technology Group, serving on the Board and as President of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, and being inducted into the BGHS Ring of Honor. Philanthropic endeavors included serving on the Board and as President of the Independent Catholic Foundation, volunteering with Junior Achievement, and raising money for various charity organizations such as Saint Francis University’s Dorothy Day Outreach Center and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through the MS150 bike tours.

Tom was also fully invested in his family; he had a bottomless well of love, energy and time for those around him. He coached his daughters’ sports teams and attended every recital, sporting event, concert, play and educational milestone celebration. Tom celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary and added the title of grandfather this year. He was an animated sports fan known for his enthusiasm and ear piercingly loud clapping. In recent years Tom was able to achieve a multitude of personal milestones, including his dream to live on Hilton Head Island. Tom was also an avid road cyclist, having ridden 98,291 miles. His passing comes shortly before obtaining his goal of 100,000 miles in 25 years. In his memory, his sons-in-law, Samuel Haddad and Eric Hauer, will be completing his remaining 1,709 miles with support from other family members.

Tom is survived by his wife and his children and their spouses, Lauren Kristofco (Samuel Haddad) of Phoenixville, PA; and Allison Kristofco (Eric Hauer) of Boonton, NJ; his granddaughter, Kinsey Haddad; and his siblings William Kristofco (Maureen), Rita Redden; Robert Kristofco (Debby); Marian Van Dyke (Warren); Clare Kristofco (Paul K. Mueller), and Michael Kristofco (Rosemary). He is also survived by his mother-in-law Rita Horell; brother-in-law Stephen Horell (Georganna); sister-in-law Kathryn Horell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, father-in-law Joseph P. Horell, and brother-in-law Richard Redden.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8pm on Monday, October 2, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602 for a celebration of Tom’s life and where a vigil for the deceased will be held. To honor Tom’s love of sports, please consider wearing BG, SFU, PSU, or professional Pittsburgh sports teams’ attire to the viewing.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 301 Spruce St., Hollidaysburg, PA with celebrant Fr. Clement Gardner. For Tom, there was only one color: blue. Please consider wearing blue to the funeral. Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona. To honor his life, memorial gifts may be made to SFU’s Dorothy Day Outreach Center at P.O. Box 600, Loretto, PA 15940, or to the Thomas J. Dear Mrs. Kristofco, Lauren, and Allison, You are all in my prayers. Your father was such kind and generous man. I'll never forget how much he loved watching his girls play tennis. The whole team could always count on him cheering each of us on—and on there being some sort of delicious snack after we won. I am grateful to have known him and will be praying for all of you especially this week.

Just wanted you to know we will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

My heart and prayers surround you Janet with Lauren, Allison and all of your family. Tom was so much more than a bicycling buddy, he was like a brother to me. I will always treasure all the miles we journeyed on the Dorothy Day fund raiser bicycle trips. The depth of faith, service, family, Church, community and fun we shared about on these trips gave me such an appreciation for the goodness of Tom. I so wish I could be with you at this time. Please know that the prayers of all the Sisters of my Franciscan Congregation are joined with my loving prayers as we say good-bye (for now) to Tom. I hope that knowing that Tom's love for you is stronger than death will bring you peace. My continued prayers for each of you. With Jesus' love, Sister Mary Ann Spanjers

Janet, Lauren, Allison and the entire Horell/Kristofco family, my heart is aching for you. I am sorry that I will not be able to personally attend the services next week, but you all will be in my thoughts and prayers. Writing an obituary under these circumstances is so very difficult, but as always, you all succeeded in capturing a bit of his heart and soul. May you find comfort in your memories, and may you feel the loving arms of our Lord surround you as you learn to live again. I wish you peace.... Karen Corrado-Knote
