W. Dale Holland

September 27, 1955 -September 13, 2025

W. Dale Holland, 69, Altoona, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona following an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John and Evelyn (Blackie) Holland. He married Jayne Condron January 22, 1982 in Altoona.

Surviving are his wife Jayne, his son Jeff Holland (Rebecca) of Altoona, three brothers: Keith, Scott and Joe Holland all of Altoona. He is also survived by his beloved pet dogs Wesley and Brutus. He was preceded in death by a brother Kevin Holland and a sister Donna Molica.

Dale retired from Amtran as a bus driver with 42 years of service. He was 3-time PA state champion in the bus rodeo competition and had also gone on to compete in the national bus rodeo competition several times. He was a lifetime member of the Amalgamated Transit Union, local 801, where he was a past president.

Dale, known as “Chief” was active in the local softball leagues for many years as both a player and as a coach in women’s softball. He enjoyed antique cars and motorcycles.

Friends will be received from 3-6pm Wednesday September 17, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary 1421 8th Ave. where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 6pm in the Memorial Chapel of the Stevens Mortuary, officiated by Rev. Charles Baughman. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.

    I remember Dale from growing up in 12th ward. The Chief as we all knew him by was a great ball player. He was a good friend of my brother. I also remember passing him as he drove bus.
