William I. Berkheimer, Sr. September 14, 1945 – December 31, 2022
William I. Berkheimer, Sr., 77, Altoona, died unexpectedly Saturday at UPMC Altoona. He is the son of the late Morris E. and Azalia V. (Jackson) Berkheimer. He married Carol L. Davis October 21, 1967 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
Surviving Bill are his wife, Carol , 2 sons: William I. Berkheimer, Jr. (Dana) of Altoona, Mark Berkheimer (Nicole) of Knoxville, TN; 2 daughters: Julie Nardozza (J.M.) of Altoona and Jennifer Beeghly (Andrew) of Asheville, NC; nine grandchildren: Caitlyn Elliott (Collin),Tyler, Aedan, Ava and Ana Berkheimer, Dominic, Mikey and Izzy Nardozza and Zoey Beeghly. He is also survived by a sister in law Patricia Berkheimer, a nephew Michael Berkheimer (Sharon) and longtime friend Terry Pannebaker. Bill was preceded in death by a brother John Berkheimer.
Bill was a 1963 graduate of Altoona H.S. and was a member of the Alumni Assoc., was a 6-year member of the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired from Norfolk Southern as a machinist with 38 years of service. Bill was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society and the Swiss Club, was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Penn State football fan, where he was a long-time season ticket holder. He was also an avid golfer, had run in 6 marathons and enjoyed travelling with his wife. Bill especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, either being outdoors exploring and hiking with them or as a great supporter of their sporting events, particularly wrestling.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday January 5, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc. 1421 8th Ave. Altoona, PA 16602 where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday January 6, 2023 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Msgr. Michael Becker. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery
