Obituary For Zane D. Williamson

Zane D. Williamson August 12, 1937-December 6, 2023

Zane D. Williamson, 86, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona.

Mr. Williamson was born in Altoona, son of the late Walton and Kathryn (Hauser) Williamson. He married his Junior High sweetheart, Sonia McGee, in December 1958. Sonia passed away in October 2022 after 64 years of marriage.

He is survived by two daughters: Lisa Covitch (Bruce) and Kiersten (Kitty) Zelnosky (Mark) both of Altoona: two grandsons, Richard Zelnosky (Sarah) and Anthony Zelnosky (Marissa): two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Zelnosky (Ronnie Drinnon) of Altoona, and Lauryn Zelnosky of Pittsburgh: and four great-grandchildren: Rayla, Rhys, Mila Zelnosky and Emmy Terez Zelnosky of Altoona.

Zane was also pre-deceased by his three siblings: Connie Donaldson, Diane Sheets, and David Williamson

Zane graduated from Altoona High School, class of 1955 where he served as a senior class treasurer and Drum Major. He continued as class reunion chairman and treasurer through six class reunions over a forty-year span aided by his wife, Sonia.

Mr. Williamson served three years in the US Marine Corps as a CW (Morse Code) radio operator. After graduation from US Navy Radion School, Norfolk, he was assigned to the 2nd Amphibian Tractor Battalion, Fleet Marine Force Atlantic, Camp LeJeune, N.C.

He was a 1965 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in history and political science and a minor in business management.

Upon graduation, he worked as Director of Social Services at Altoona Hospital followed by 32 years as a PA State Civil Servant at DPW, OIM, Blair CAO, Altoona.

Zane was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, Back the Lions, Marine Corp League, Marine Corps Heritage Society, and Unter Uns. Zane was a member of the St. Thomas of Canterbury Anglican Church, Phillipsburg.

Zane says thank you to the many friends and acquaintances who shared good times and many stories. He loved his family and the special, dear friend-caregivers at Graystone Grande Palazzo in the assisted care living. He loved sharing his life memories and his love for his wife. He will be sadly missed by many.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm, on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., Altoona, Pa. 16602. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, December 11, 2023 in the Stevens Memorial Chapel with Fr. Fred Erb. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery.

    Zane was such a nice man I meet at the Graystone. I liked talking to him when he would come into the dining room to eat. He will be missed by all.
